Nashville Symphony honors Rev. Tony G. Sirten with The Edwinda Hefner Community Leadership Award

Pastor Tony was awarded the second annual Edwina Hefner Community Leadership Award, Sunday, January 20th at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center.  There was a private gathering with Pastor Tony, Ms. Hefner, Mayor Karl Dean, and several members of the Nashville Symphony and " Let Freedom Sing" committee.  Pastor Tony was then presented the award during the Nashville Symphony's annual " Let Freedom Sing!" Concert.

Sirten, senior pastor of The Church of the Living Water in Goodlettsville.  Aside from Rev. Sirten's tireless ministry work a this church, the Old Hickory resident has volunteered his time and energy for the residents of the HQM Nursing Facility (Donelson Place) in Donelson, where many facility residents find themselves without family to help make difficult and complicated life decisions.  Volunteering as conservator, Rev. Sirtne helps make sure residents receive whatever care they require in a timely manner.  He assists them in scheduling appointments and at times also drives residents to the office of doctors and dentists.  He celebrates birthdays; he brings them snacks and treats; he prays with them.  More than that, Rev. Sirten give his time to share in the events and concerns of the residents' everyday lives, encouraging everyone in the belief that each life is a dignified and precious thing.  Rev. Sirten has truly given new meaning to the word 'caregiver'."

According to their web-site and press release, The Nashville Symphony's Edwina Hefner Community Leadership Award is named for Mrs. Edwina Hefner for an outstanding Nashville civic leader who strongly advocates the celebration of all cultures and forms of express and recognizes individual helping to make the world a better place through their leadership efforts and volunteerism.

The Church of The Living Water is very proud of Pastor Tony and congratulate him on the acknowledgment.

Schermerhorn Hosts Annual "Let Freedom Sing" Concert

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- The third Monday in January is always set-aside for the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. The Sunday before the holiday, the Nashville Symphony celebrated in song.

Sunday evening, the Schermerhorn Symphony Center was alive with music at the Symphony's 15th annual "Let Freedom Sing!" Concert.  Symphony musicians were backed-up by a massive choir, made up of children and adults.

Audience members were reminded of the civil rights leader who "had a dream."

"Oh, he was such a legacy and such a man that made a change in our lives, in the world. So, I just think it's important to keep that legacy alive," said audience member, Lisa Lancaster-Williams.

  In a special presentation, the Reverend Tony Sirten  was handed the prestigious "Edwina Hefner Community Leadership" award.   Sirten is a pastor in Goodlettsville and spends much of his time volunteering for a handful of nursing home patients in Donelson.

Also to Celebrate the Martin Luther King Junior Holiday,  there will be  numerous events going on throughout the city, including the "King Day March and Convocation."

Marchers will convene at the Jefferson Street Missionary Baptist Church at 11:00 Monday morning and march to the Gentry Center on TSU's campus.

Mayor Karl Dean, along with other religious leaders and politicians are expected to attend the event.
